DM115: SEMESTER PAPER/PRESENTATION 300 PTS

1 of 3 options pick one

There is only one major assignment this semester and you have one of three options to chose from. Read carefully as each option has different criteria and deadlines. Option 1 is due at the mid-term while Options 2 & 3 are due at the end of the semester.

Option 1: Mid-term Essay "The Gospel as . . ." (3-5 Pages Double Spaced)

Based on any of the media presented in class thus far (or a story you are familiar with) write a 3-5 page essay through the lens of The Gospel as Tragedy, Comedy or Fairytale.

The Gospel is the news that man is "evil in the imagination of his heart". . .that is the tragedy.  But it is also the news that he is loved anyway, cherished and forgiven. . .that is the comedy.  And yet the very mark and substance of his sin is that he keeps turning down the love and forgiveness .   The news of the Gospel is that extraordinary things happen.  It is impossible for anybody to leave behind the darkness of the world he carries on his back like a snail, but with God all things are possible.  That is the fairytale.  All together they are the truth.            Frederick Buechner
