Woodcut Sketch

Still going after that illusive woodcut look.  This one is a bit sketchier but I like how the image is holding together.  It’s from a story panel early on in the Fishbones story.

  • Personally I have to say, I like where this is going the best so far of all your woodcut tests. There is some serious magic and awesomeness happening here. I think it’s partly the way you’re contrasting the actual forms and volumes with different scratching directions and techniques. It adds an almost other worldly physicality to the piece.

  • Thanks Bryan,

The comments are really helpful. I think this is the first that’s starting to give off clues as to what the film can look like. I think you’re right about the scratching directions and forms. Getting that combination to work on the medium and close shots is proving to be difficult. I need to adjust my strategy but I’m not sure how yet.
