 Sorry it’s been a while, Here’s a quick value study of a still life. I’m still looking for a visual style for my Fishbones concept. I’m pretty committed to some sort of woodcut look but in the meantime these value studies help me to sort out the world these characters live in.  I really have been working though my lack of postings may lead you to believe otherwise. I’ve been focusing mainly on storyboards over the past couple of weeks and I’m still not sure how to go about posting the progress on them (and there has been some really good progress). For the time being I’ll post [...]  This image is from a story panel early on in the first act of the Fishbone story. He’s just thrown his hook in the water and is now settling back for a relaxing smoke. Lots of new challenges with different textures and surfaces. The water not being the least of them. I’m finding that using [...]  Here are six of the steps along the way to the Fisherman Woodcut. I wish I could say it was as organized as it appears. Honestly it’s still pretty messy as I’m experimenting with all sorts of techniques to find a result I’m happy with. I especially like the way the waves turned out.  Still going after that illusive woodcut look. This one is a bit sketchier but I like how the image is holding together. It’s from a story panel early on in the Fishbones story.  This one started out as a woodcut attempt but I realized I had too many questions about lighting…light source, shadows, mid tones, etc. So I decided to paint it in gray tones to see what I would get. I suppose at some point I’ll get around to doing the wood cut but in the meantime [...]  Trying to keep my shapes simple. Certainly makes the work go faster. This looks like it may be the beginnings of a logo. I’ll have to try playing with some text.
