The sermon yesterday was the Passover story… you know, 12 plagues on Egypt culminating in the death the firstborn. A dramatic story to say the least with all sorts of complicated issues. The image that came immediately to mind was that of Pharaoh weeping over his firstborn. I didn’t realize until afterward that I had [...]
So this is sort of an inside family joke. Jesikah and I got to wondering what it would look like if certain members of our family broke out into teams for the amazing race.
We took a family trip to the Indy Museum of Art about a week before I did this comic. We finished up our visit with a shorts screening at the Heartland Film Festival and about the third film in all the girls recognized one of their favorite characters from the Bones series staring in a [...]
I did a handful of web comics a while back to keep up with my storyboard class. Most had to do with my family life and my kids have been bugging me to bring them back. This early one was one of my favorites but Katie did NOT like it at all.
These are images from a story I’ve been working on for sometime now. Kind of a dark fairytale with lots of stuff going on in it that I’m not sure I understand. A fisherman with an overworked [...]
Finally we’re telling some epic stories! It was so good to hear Joseph’s life unfold without sermon points and applications. A really good story, with good characters, a great hero… and lots of morale ambiguity. I’m looking forward to Exodus!
I think this was the first drawing I did for Drawer Geeks way back in 2004. The frog looks like a tribute to Ballinger..can you tell.
This is an image I did a while ago for Drawer Geeks. The theme was “When Animals Attack”. Rikki Tikki Tavi from Kipling’s Jungle Books came to mind immediately. The image itself was done in Flash over a pencil sketch.
This image is from John 12. Shortly after Lazarus was raised Martha pours some expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet and washes them with her hair. I’ve been looking at Maurice Sendak’s illustrations in The Juniper Tree. They’re a collection of Grimm’s fairytales that he illustrated while drawing heavily on Durer’s Passion of [...]
Here’s the first of my Sunday Sketches. I draw these while I’m in church and yes I am paying attention to the sermon…most times. Sometimes the sermons even influence the drawing. Mostly I find that sitting in the pew quiets my mind long enough to relax and draw. Something I need more of in my [...]
